The goal of this presentation is to educate families who have a child\, grandchild\, or even a sibling with a disability. \n  \nEstate Planning: Special Needs Trust and NJ Able Accounts \nTuesday\, November 14\, 2023 6 pm \nThis presentation educates parents\, grandparents\, and other family members on the importance of an estate plan\, what happens without an estate plan\, and how they could jeopardize their family member’s benefits if they die without an estate plan or one that’s not properly prepared. This presentation covers the fundamentals of Wills\, Special Needs Trusts\, Durable Powers of Attorney\, Medical Directives\, NJ Able Accounts\, the transfer of non-probate assets\, such as life insurance policies and retirement accounts\, and creating a plan to care for their family member after they are gone.  \n  \nSuccessful Transition to Adulthood \nTuesday\, December 12\, 2023 6 pm \nThis presentation provides a more in-depth understanding of when a guardianship is needed\, the difference between plenary guardianship and limited guardianship\, and guardianship of the person and guardianship of the estate\, obtaining physician certifications\, the role of court appointed counsel\, and options for supported decision making when a guardianship is not appropriate. I was born December 14\, 1952. My father and mother moved from 13th Ave to 22 Inlet Terrace soon afterward. Dad grew up on Inlet Terrace. He was Captain of the Asbury Park H.S. state championship football team of 1931. Mom also attended A.P.H.S. We belonged to the First Presbyterian Church on 9th Ave. \nLocally\, I attended Belmar Elementary and Manasquan H.S. Always a late bloomer\, I was sent to Blair Academy for what was euphemistically called a post-graduate or PG year. At Blair I fell in love with writing. From there I attended Gettysburg College\, and after graduation in 1975\, found a job at a high school 15 miles from Gettysburg where I taught English and coached basketball. \nAfter 33 years\, one master’s degree\, many great memories\, and thousands of lousy essays\, I retired from teaching in 2010. My wife Kathleen and I have been married for 39 years.
