I was born December 14\, 1952. My father and mother moved from 13th Ave to 22 Inlet Terrace soon afterward. Dad grew up on Inlet Terrace. He was Captain of the Asbury Park H.S. state championship football team of 1931. Mom also attended A.P.H.S. We belonged to the First Presbyterian Church on 9th Ave. \nLocally\, I attended Belmar Elementary and Manasquan H.S. Always a late bloomer\, I was sent to Blair Academy for what was euphemistically called a post-graduate or PG year. At Blair I fell in love with writing. From there I attended Gettysburg College\, and after graduation in 1975\, found a job at a high school 15 miles from Gettysburg where I taught English and coached basketball. \nAfter 33 years\, one master’s degree\, many great memories\, and thousands of lousy essays\, I retired from teaching in 2010. My wife Kathleen and I have been married for 39 years. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column icons_position=”left”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1694798997744{margin-right: 25px !important;margin-left: 25px !important;}”] \nThe Belmar Shade Tree Commission\, in partnership with the  \nBelmar Public Library\, presents \nPRUNING BASICS \nwith Bob Magovern  \nof the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Monmouth County \n  \nThursday\, September 21\, 2023. 6 pm \nLIVE at the Belmar Public LIbrary’s Lower Level Tarzian Media Room. \n\n\nAre you planning to prune the plants in your yard? \n\nLearn why pruning is needed\, when pruning is appropriate\, and how to do it without spreading disease or making things worse.  \n\nThere will be lots of helpful hints along the way.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBob Magovern has 20 years experience as a certified Master Gardener. He is certified in Professional Landscaping and Pest and Disease Management. Bob has worked as a horticulturist for a large retail nursery\, giving workshops and managing plant health. He was previously a Program Assistant to the Monmouth County Agricultural Agent working on issues surrounding watersheds\, rain gardens\, and soil testing.
